Grand Houses of the Wilmington Area

Seeing this article on the grand houses and mansions around the world got me thinking about some of our area’s grand houses so I did a quick search in our multiple listing service for homes that were over 5,000 square feet and were either on the market currently, under contract, or had been sold within the last year.  The list was quite extensive at 170+.  I’ve decided to share the five most expensive homes with you:

#5 – 5This Wrightsville Beach cottage is listed for $4,200,000 and was obviously planned to enjoy with friends and family. Situated on an 1/2 acre (not common for the beach community) it offers extensive parking, as well as multiple boatslips and lifts. Over 6500 heated square feet (along with open living space) features 10 bedrooms, 7 full baths and 2 half baths.

#4

4Located on Figure Eight Island, a private island suitable for the likes of Al Gore, Andy Griffith and many other well known people is this home listed for $4,300,000.  Ocean Front, it features 6500 square feet including 6 bedrooms and 7.5 baths.

#33Also located on Figure Eight Island is this humble abode listed for $4,495,000. Ocean Front, it also offers amazing views of the sound. Over 9,000 heated square feet and an abundance of porches ensure easy entertaining.

#2

2Located on the peninsula of Figure Eight Island is the second most currently listed home in our area at $5,450,000.  Along with the acre of land the home is situated on, the buyer of this grand home will delight in over 6500 square feet.

#1

1Listed at $6,000,000 is this estate also located on Figure Eight Island.  Situated on over 7 acres, the home offers 9,000 heated square feet of living space. The buyer will also enjoy the expansive pool and deck area overlooking panoramic views of the ocean!

As mentioned above, these five homes are just a snap shot of the grand houses in the Wilmington area.  Feel free to contact me for any listings ranging from under $100,000 on up to this $6,000,000 gem! Whatever your budget, we’ll find the home that is right for you!

Enchanted Airlie Gardens

Some would say that Airlie Gardens is enchanted any day you visit, but during the holiday season, the Gardens are even more magical.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to go, imagine age old oaks with southern moss decked in thousands of lights.  This year, there will be something extra special for the young and young at heart – a running train made of LEGOs.  You’ll need advance tickets for the event running each weekend evening from now until Christmas.  Visit the Airlie Gardens website for all the details.

If you do get the opportunity to go, be sure to share your enchanted experience with us in our comments section!
